History

First Wave Sports Marketing came into existence in 1990. The brainchild of former English League players, Graham Smith and Frank McClintock, First Wave, was considered one of Britain's first and strongest soccer agencies. With the transfers of Teddy Sheringham, Dion Dublin and Mark Bosnich, First Wave solidifed its reputation as a major player in the British soccer market.

In 1996, Graham Smith relocated the First Wave offices to the USA where they are currently based in Ojai, California. Since the move First Wave have continued to grow their international business with the transfers of Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld and Branko Strupar. They have also committed to expanding their interests in the North American Marketplace. First Wave began providing players to the MLS including the transfers of Preki, Jan Ericcson, and Alex Bunbury back to North America.

In 2002 First Wave acquired the sports managment business of Canadian Licensed agent Barry MacLean. In 2005, First Wave acquired US agent Patrick McCabe and his stable of clients. With a strong nucleus of young American and Canadian players and the current roster of international players, First Wave is now a major player in the North American soccer industry. What began in 1997 as cooperation on various transfer deals has now evolved into the current company structure.

The current structure provides over 40 years of both expertise and experience in a wide variety of areas which are critical for success in the modern game. Barry, Graham and Patrick are all passionate about the game as well as the business of soccer.
