AMSTERDAM – American midfielder Anton Peterlin is closing on a deal to join League One side Plymouth Argyle, MLSsoccer.com has learned.
The 23-year-old has impressed manager Peter Reid on trial and his agent believes the chances of a deal are “about 90 percent.” “Something is happening with Anton,” Barry McLean told MLSsoccer.com. “There's a good chance he will sign with Plymouth. We are trying to work it out.” Peterlin worked 45 minutes in Tuesday's friendly loss at Torquay United and has been tipped in local papers for more action at Southampton on Saturday. Plymouth's coaching staff includes former New England Revolution assistant Paul Mariner and former Toronto FC manager John Carver. Compatriot Cody Arnoux, however, was not in uniform at Torquay and his future appears to lie elsewhere. The striker has contact with clubs both inside and outside the United Kingdom, though McLean will only admit to the presence of longtime suitor Motherwell among the small crowd. “Cody is weighing a few other options,” said the agent. “Motherwell has definitely expressed their interest and there is a possibility outside the UK.” Though Arnoux does have admirers in Major League Soccer, McLean reiterated an earlier comment that Arnoux would likely remain overseas. Both Arnoux and Peterlin featured for the Everton reserves last season, but were allowed to leave when their contracts expired on June 30.
